Talia’s Chocolate Praline Matzo

Talia Halperin, Saturday Night Seder Executive Producer

INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 - 4 whole matzo

  • 2 sticks butter

  • 1 cup dark brown sugar

  • 12 ounces chocolate chips or chopped chocolate bars

  • 1 cup chopped nuts - walnuts, almonds, pecans, etc

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat oven to 325. Cover a large cookie sheet with aluminum foil. A disposable cookie sheet is even better!

  2. Grease the foil or pan with butter/margarine. Lay the matzo in a single layer, breaking as needed to fill the sheet completely.

  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter/margarine/ Add the brown sugar and boil for 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Watch it carefully - can boil over easily.

  4. Pour the brown sugar mixture over the matzo, spreading evenly. Bake for 8 - 10 minutes. Turn the oven off. Remove the pan and sprinkle the chocolate over the matzo. Place it back in the oven (still OFF!) for 8 minutes.

  5. Remove from the oven and spread the chocolate in an even layer. Sprinkle with the chopped nuts. Refrigerate for one hour. Break into pieces. Store in the fridge or the freezer.
